As I am finally processing my first amazing trip to High Point Market (HPMKT), I am focusing on the trends that will lead us into 2017. What is evident is the playfulness of the upcoming year, the color palette, the patterns and materials. As I roamed the halls and corridors of HPMKT, these trends were everywhere!
Let’s begin with the playfulness theme. The idea of being fun, letting down your hair and disconnecting from the go, go, go of our lives is a trend we are moving toward. This was seen in-game tables, wallpaper and artwork. One example is by an artist I saw at Inn at Market Square. Windy O’Connor uses many mediums to create her masterpieces. This image below shows the playfulness of color, the whimsical of the face and a bold statement for any room!
Next in my journey throughout the Market, I discovered the trending color palette for 2017. Stark white will no longer be, rather the whites will have a softer hue to it with pink, green and yellow undertones. The blues will be stormy and washed out like. The oranges will be warm. Green will be back with emerald vibrance. But, as you think of green, think of the forest floor and the colors you see there. This will be a very prominent color palette for 2017. Color will be light and then on the other spectrum bold. And most importantly, yellow will be more than just an accent color. Check out some of the colors below.
Patterns dominate 2017. Artwork and decor will have patterns ranging from eyes, beams, smoke swirls in the bold dark stormy colors. To pleats for added texture, faces, digital patterns, games, grounded florals, and stripes of multi-colors. As you pay attention to the patterns, you will see the connection to the playfulness theme I mentioned earlier. Below are examples of pattern in wallpaper, rugs and decor.
Last, let’s talk about the materials trending for 2017. For 2017 think DRAMA! This can be done with pendants grouped in multiples, to iridescents. Mother of Pearl decor and detailing added the iridescent shine to lamps, desks, dressers, accessories and art. It was a fun textural element to see in the showrooms. Curves were used on materials in all areas. Yes, it is evident in lamps, and chairs, but really big was seeing this idea used in sofas! It was so fun and playful, yet added a sophistication to a room! Very intriguing! Another material trending now and more into 2017, is fur! It is used with rugs, chairs, stools, benches, lamps….YES lamps, too! Adding greenery to the walls will be a hot trend as well as clean wood and marble/stone.
Taking the trends and bring them together is the most exciting piece of the new year. I am beyond excited to watch as things begin to hit the market. What do you think of the trends? Would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Want to check out other finds and adventures I had while at HPMKT check out my instagram. Happy decorating with the newest trends!
