Inside the Design

Dec 13, 2025

There’s something magical about watching a home evolve. This is especially true when a small kitchen transformation turns a dated space into one that feels bright and functional. This month, we’re taking you behind the scenes of one of our recent kitchen projects, where thoughtful planning and smart architectural adjustments brought new life to this space.

Before: A Tight, Dated Kitchen With Untapped Potential

When we first stepped into this kitchen, it told a familiar story: low storage, tight traffic flow, dark surfaces, and limited prep space. Our client loved their home but desperately wanted their kitchen to feel: more open, more inviting, and more usable for everyday living. They didn’t just want pretty, they needed function and breathing room.

Setting the Vision

From the start, our goal was clear and exciting. We needed to create a kitchen that feels bigger without increasing its footprint. To do that, we honed in on visual openness, strategic storage, and the perception of height and light.

Ultimately, achieving this meant more than surface upgrades; rather, it required a reimagining of how the space functioned. We took a bold approach with a full gut, removing dated cabinetry, fixtures, appliances, and unnecessary wall obstructions to reset the canvas.

From there, a few pivotal structural decisions transformed everything:

  • Opening doorways to improve flow and connectivity
  • Rearranging the layout for better functionality and smoother sightlines
  • Raising upper cabinets to draw the eye upward and give the illusion of higher ceilings

Together, these thoughtful moves instantly made the kitchen feel larger, brighter, and far more intentional. This proved that great design can expand a space without changing its square footage.

Design Development: Where Style Meets Purpose

We selected:

  • Light, refined cabinetry finishes to reflect natural light
  • Warm, timeless surfaces to soften the space
  • Clean-lined hardware for modern functionality
  • Layered lighting to add depth and dimension

Everything worked together to support a kitchen that felt calm, beautiful, and practical.

The After: A Kitchen That Lives Bigger Than Its Footprint

The final result is a light-filled, easy-flowing kitchen with purposeful storage, open sightlines, and elevated character. With just paint and flooring left to wrap up, what was once a cramped space now feels expansive. Ultimately, this is proof that great design isn’t always about adding square footage; instead, it’s about making better use of the space you have.

Watching this kitchen evolve reminded us why transformation stories matter. Not just for the before-and-after moment, but for everything in between. From gutting walls to lifting cabinets for more height, every decision layered meaning and intention into this space.

As the last coat of paint goes on and the floors get installed, we’re grateful for the chance to share this journey with you. The dust, the details, and the little victories along the way. Thanks for following along; we can’t wait to bring you behind the scenes on the next project soon.
